Silbi is a Filipino word which means “service or use”. Locating this word in the context of UP Baguio, silbi is a method and process of expanding our service to the community and nation. A cusp of research and innovation that will aid in the transformation of local communities in the Cordillera and Northern Luzon. As a program of UP Baguio, SILBI (Social Innovation Laboratory and Business Inclusion) Center is also a broadened form of public service.
Through research and innovations created in the laboratories, UP Baguio will partner with communities and engage them in refining their products to become more competitive in the larger market. DOST SILBI-TBI aims to generate more scientific and sustainable ideas to ensure that communities will be given opportunities for economic growth. As a Center that will work closely with partner communities, SILBI fosters inclusivity, adaptability, and ownership, not only creating economic opportunities but also empowering them. Through UP Baguio’s SILBI, collaboration will be fully operationalized as a “conscious effort toward building and sustaining generative relationships and partnerships that will fully realize the development of indigenous communities and marginalized sectors”. With the Cordillera Studies Center (CSC), UP Baguio will be provided with social and cultural grounding that is necessary for consciousness and conscientiousness in facilitating the needs of partner community-based entrepreneurs or incubatees.
